Thu 12th Apr 2012 New Release: 'Hidden Highways'

Out On A Limb Records are delighted to announce the first physical release from Hidden Highways with their self-titled debut EP set to hit record store shelves in time for this year’s Record Store Day (April 21st), with the digital release coming at the end of this month.

Hidden Highways is a collaboration project featuring two of the country’s most talented songwriters, Carol Anne McGowan and Tim V. Smyth. Mining a rich vein of stripped down folk and raw boned country, the two started working together in late 2010 and have been crafting wonderful folk-tinged numbers ever since.

After releasing a digital single last year on Out On A Limb Records, the duo set about writing and recording material for this new release. Two new compositions ‘In Defence Of Magpies’ and ‘Burnt Ships’ are joined by covers of ‘Come Wander With Me’ (featured in a 1964 episode of The Twilight Zone) and Jackson C. Frank’s ‘Blues Run The Game’.

The four tracks can be streamed at the Hidden Highways bandcamp page and OOAL soundcloud, and will be available in record stores from April 20th. This weekend marks the first Hidden Highways shows, and to celebrate Cds in specially screenprinted packaging of Hidden Highways will be available at these gigs. The CD can also be pre-ordered via OOAL’s webstore.

Saturday night will see them play Ormston House, Limerick, in a triple-header that also features labelmate Owensie and Peter Delaney. Doors are at 7.30pm, with show commencing at 8pm. It will be a seated performance and is BYOB. Sunday night sees Owensie return the favour and guest for the official EP launch at the Stag’s Head Raw in Dublin. Doors at 8pm.

Out On A Limb and Hidden Highway are very grateful to the Clare Arts Office for their support to this project.

About Us

Out On A Limb Records is an independent record label based in Limerick City, Ireland. The label was set up in the summer of 2003 with the release of "Is it OK to be loud, Jesus?", the debut album from local band giveamanakick. Since then, we've put out records for a number of bands, including Crayonsmith, giveamanakick, Hooray For Humans, Owensie, Rest, Ten Past Seven, Waiting Room and windings, along with a number of split 7" singles and digital releases.

The label is very much run on a DIY ethos, and aims to continually release innovative, quality recordings that are kept to a low cost for the listener. All OOAL releases can be found in all good record shops in Ireland. While currently we don't have overseas distribution, all releases are available worldwide via our website. All releases since 2007 have also been available digitally.
